I used to teach P.E. and coached gymnastics. I had a no gum in class rule. I used to tape a sheet of paper to the gym wall that said-ABC Gum. Which stood for already been chewed gum. Students would push their gum onto the piece of paper and I would crumple the paper with all the gum and toss into my waste basket. This kept my wastebasket clean and not have gum wads all over the sides of my wastebasket (yuck!!)

So enjoy your blog!!

Also NOT a fan of gum smacking, but I bet she would rather have me next to her at dinner chewing my nicotine gum than smoking a big, fat cigarette. hmmm

Your mom is the warden? She can pass the baton to me. I I break out in little sweat beads and my ears tingle when I sit in front of a gum snapping person in church. At every snap I turn to see what the noise is, hoping they will get the hint. That hardly ever happens.

But get this, I took up gum chewing (again) recently. I only chew for about 5 minutes but I'm going to have to stop because the inside of my cheek is getting shredded when I chomp. Go figure.

I'm with you and the Big O...no gum allowed!

Brits as a whole seem to share this disdain for gum. When I stayed in London (between trips doing relief work) a friend leaned in close to me and whispered, "I just have one question. When you're finished, what do you DO with it???" When I told her (that we Americans) put it in the wrapper and throw it away, she wanted to know more. "Do you touch it once it's been in your mouth? Where do you put it if there's no rubbish bin?" When I told her you could put it in the wrapper in your purse and toss it later, she was mortified. I did not say anything about the Brits I had seen putting their snotty cloth handkerchiefs back in their pockets and purses. I kept that to myself. In my opinion, holding on to used gum is not as disgusting as holding on to nasal residue. But I do agree that gum smacking is nasty, like eating with your mouth open. Eating, like gum chewing, can be done politely. These little quirks of 'proper behavior' make me smile. :)
